Every 10 years, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics releases its employment projections for the coming decade; in its latest release for 2010–20, the fastest job growth is expected in health care, personal care and social assistance, and construction.

It is no surprise that as the last of the baby boomer generation moves into the 55-years-and-older age group, the aging population will bring increased demand in the health care and social assistance sector. The healthcare industry's growth and ongoing shift to electronic records is also projected to contribute to robust growth for computer and mathematical occupations.

Despite extensive job losses during the recession, the construction industry is forecasted to see rapid growth over the next decade. However, only a partial recovery is expected, with 2020 employment levels projected to remain below prerecession levels.
